Greetings from Oakland
University William Beaumont (OUWB)
School of Medicine!
With the academic year winding down and graduation
right around the corner, we're reflecting on another successful
year here at OUWB. We're excited to share our excellent
residency match results and are looking forward to welcoming the
Class of 2026 this fall. We believe every accredited medical
school can offer an excellent education, but at OUWB our
medical students are developed to become skillful, ethical, and
compassionate physicians who are dedicated to improving the
health of their communities.
Looking ahead to the next generation
of OUWB medical students, we'd like to share the prerequisite
coursework, some information on the new AAMC PREview
Professional Readiness Exam, and how the PREview Exam
will be utilized in our admissions process. We will continue
to look for students who align with our mission and values by
utilizing a holistic approach.
Our website, oakland.edu/medicine,
is a great resource to learn more about the opportunities we
offer. Individuals can find information about admissions
requirements, the Class of 2025
profile, as well as OUWB's
refreshed mission, vision and values. If you or
your students have any questions, please feel free to reach out
via email at medadmit@oakland.edu or
by phone at (248) 370-2769.
All the best,
Dan Kallenberger

AAMC PREview PROFESSIONAL READINESS EXAM
|
|
|
The AAMC PREview
Professional Readiness Exam was designed to help
assess the readiness of an individual to learn about
professionalism in medical school. The exam enables medical
schools to assess non-academic, pre-professional
competencies that research shows meaningfully impact an
individual’s performance during medical training and as
practicing physicians.
The PREview exam aligns nicely with many of OUWB's
values and gives applicants an opportunity to distinguish
themselves by displaying their pre-professional characteristics. The AAMC PREview Professional Readiness Exam is highly
recommended for all applicants that plan to apply to OUWB
beginning in the 2022-2023 application cycle. Additional information pertaining to how OUWB
will utilize this exam is explained on our Admissions
website and we have addressed some possible FAQs
as well.
We believe this exam will enhance our admissions
process, which is why we are one of eighteen
medical schools utilizing this exam this upcoming
cycle. The exam is
cost-effective and equitable as it is a $100 flat fee
for examinees with unlimited distribution to participating
schools. In addition, those applicants that are approved for AAMC's Fee
Assistance Program will also have this fee waived. We
encourage you to review the information and free
preparation materials provided by the AAMC as well as
on our website as you guide your students.

The 2022-2023 admissions
cycle will open shortly and we want to provide useful
updates.
As our communities continue
to heal from the impact of COVID-19, we will continue to provide
an admissions process that is supportive and equitable to all
applicants. Our admissions
requirements and any updates, including our interview
format that continues to remain virtual this
upcoming cycle, have been published on our website and AAMC's
Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR). As always, our admissions
process will look to identify individuals who align
with the mission,
vision, and values of OUWB.

Match Day marks one of the most important days of
a medical student's journey and we are extremely proud of our
students' accomplishments. We strongly believe that their
commitment to the OUWB mission combined with hard work
led to another remarkable Match.
OUWB has consistently enjoyed a Match rate above
the national average and continues this year with a 98% Match
rate with 28% matching in Michigan. This year, our students
matched at programs like Brigham & Women's Hospital,
University of California San Francisco, Beaumont Health,
Cleveland Clinic, and numerous other competitive programs across
23 states. You can read more about OUWB's Match
Day experience and see a full Match list
online.

OUWB Student Organizations Fundraise More Than
$10k
In true OUWB fashion, three student organizations
collaborated with their respective members to raise over $10,000
for charity. The Pediatric, Oncology, and Urology interest groups
each held individual events within the community for a good
cause. Read more
about their efforts and the charities they are supporting.

Students Provide Health
Screening and Education with Local Community
Service learning is not just preached, but also
practiced within the OUWB curriculum. Our students take those
lessons to heart and apply them within our local communities to provide
education as well as important health screenings the community
needs. Contributing to local communities builds the
compassion that is a strength shared by our students.
